This 20,000 SF retail/restaurant center was designed with sustainability in mind. Existing building materials were salvaged from the demolished building on the site and reused in the new buildings. The HVAC and lighting systems were designed to minimize energy use and maximize indoor environmental quality. Through this sustainable engineering focus, the project was awarded LEED® Silver certification, making it the first retail center in California to achieve LEED® certification. The attention this project received from the public and retail industry inspired a detailed article which can be viewed at http://retailremix.com/uptown-monterey-leed-shopping-center/.
